Compellingness

Technology is ever-growing and today, many jobs rely heavily on computers and automation. With this new technology age, there is often over-reliance on automation which can cause many failures or distraction. What factors cause these lapses in knowledge or judgment?

Compellingness, while a seldom used construct, is an incredibly important measure to consider when designing an interface. It takes into account multiple measures such as the usability of the interface, the interaction between the system and the user, and the preconceived notions of the user. All of these factors come together to measure the compellingness, or expected interest, attention and respect ca user will have for a system. The goal of this research is to analyze the average human's view of "compellingness" combined with the little research that is out there to develop and test a survey tool much like that of the NASA TLX in order to accurately measure the compellingness of an interface.
